Day six July 20, 2013

This day we pretty much spent the whole time driving. We stopped by a historical mountain sight called John Day Fossil National Monument "painted Hills Unit". The surface of the mountain was bright red and had interesting facts about the mountains. For example, the red particles from the mountain expand when it rains. And plants can not grow on these mountains because the clay particles absorb rain water so well that they saturate and seal so moisture cannot penetrate and holds water so tightly most plants cannot draw it out. I also found out that beneath the surface it is hardpan, which is impenetrable to plant roots. The surface of the mountain top is loose and is not a good foothold for plants and it makes it easy for plants to wash away when heavy rains arrive. I had lots of fun at this site we decided to have lunch there as well since we had a long journey ahead.

It is almost 10:00p.m. and we have not arrived at the camping grounds of Wallowa. Cia, a friend and classmate at Heritage is a bit disappointed because she wanted to arrive on time but she said that at times the pow wows go till 1:00a.m. Then she had a call that her mother was coming over, she made her want to be there already. I was sitting there waiting to arrive. I have never been to Wallowa, so I could not tell when we would be there. We were bored from all that driving but it was nice because I got to rest. The Monet, Cia, Jayla, Briana, Destiny, Michael and Havier began jamming out. I was not singing I was not feeling it but when I began singing with the group every time a high note was played the girls had no strength to sing that part. It was hilarious. So we arrived at Wallowa after 11 hours of driving and we are escorted by a sheriff. I set my tent up and begin to lay out my stuff on my inflatable mattress and next thing you now I'm out!!! Thanks for reading!!!
