Day two july 16, 2013

We met with Jason Grant and Austin Smith. Jason went to oregon state university and got a degree in fisheries. Works for the fish habitat program which includes working with an interdisciplinary team. He gets to solve problems involving stream reservation scenarios. Which include fish, soil, rocks, etc. Jason spoke to us about a project,  they had just completed with a creek named Shitike Creek. The creek had a lot of problems with flooding. And the fish once common to the area were disappearing. With this project Jason and team members are hoping to save endangered species and other natural native plants known to the area of Warm Springs. The project plan included bringing in partners from the hydraulic engineering natural resource conservation service department. They are supposed to design the creek and tie it with the settings in the area.
Austin Smith is a wildlife Technician. He works part time and goes to Oregon state univeristy. He also served in the marine courts for  5 years and  3 years in Iraq. Austin monitors mull deer in the area. He says that the number of deers are declining. He wants to know if that is do to lack of resources, human activities, predators, etc. So he puts collars on the deer to monitor there locations. These collars are very high in tech. They can give Austin a fixed position on the deer if it is laying down or standing up at various altitudes and gives off heat temperatures.
